Electric Urethane Mfg. has its roots in skateboarding , since 1978 , when its founder,Tim Dawe, discovered the joy of skateboarding in a swimming pool at Pymble,in the northern part of Sydney , Australia.
Co-founder of OZI SKATE in 1978,part-owner of Ryde Skatepark 1979,builder of Manly and MonaVale vert ramps, design consultant for various other skate facilities, and founder of
COCKROACH
skateboard wheels 1986,is a brief rundown of Tim Dawe's early history in skateboarding in Australia.
The lack of home-grown,high performance skateboard wheels in Australia led to the setting up of the first urethane plant, which was primitive by to-day's standards.
The first skateboard wheels were handpoured in 1981.These wheels utilised our first high speed, high rebound, and high abrasion resistance formulas , which we have developed further over the years, into what they are to-day,the end result, very quick and long wearing wheels .The Ozi skateboard wheel was born.
Some six years later, using this technology,a more advanced wheel was made. These wheels were named after an indestructible little creature. The Cockroach wheel brand was launched on an innocent world.
Electric Urethane now makes three brands of skateboard wheels. These are Pointblank , Electro and Cortech skateboard wheels.
In 1992 we developed the world's first composite or dual durometer cast polyurethane skateboard wheel, the CORTECH skateboard wheel.
We are the original creators of the cast polyurethane dual durometer skateboard wheel , and our technology is unmatched in its speed , performance, and quality.
The Cortech Skateboard Wheel System is a result of many years of research into composite urethane technology. The concept was originally engineered from the need to add certain qualities to the performance results of the urethane blends we use.In order to build a faster wheel , the gravity poured urethane core was added to the wheel.
See our Cortech System Technology data sheet for more details.
In utilising this system ,we produce the fastest and longest wearing wheels on the planet.
A FEW THINGS MORE
Here at Electric Urethane,we do actually pour our own wheels. Take a look at the many brands of wheels on the market and understand that most of them generally are made in the same few factories by industrialists who can't ride a skateboard,or are too old to,let alone understand the dynamics of a skateboard wheel's performance. There is usually little interest in these things, and more interest generally,in business plans and business formulas.
Understand what you are buying when you see the glossy advertisements and promotion in the magazines.
Mostly, the well-known brands you see are not actually made by the owners of the brands-that is by skateboarders.Generally, the industrialists can't skate and have no intimate knowledge of skateboarding to apply it to their wheelmaking capabilities, and the skateboarders who generally are the brandowners, have little knowledge on how to make a wheel,so there is a gap here in the way wheels are put together .
In other words, generally, the industrialist cant skate and the skater can't make urethane wheels, there is a gap in the knowledge that is required to build a high performance skateboard wheel-particularly in the dual durometer area, which we dominate through our innovation and determination to deliver the fastest skateboard wheels in the world.
